Quinta Vigia has beautifull gardens that can be visited for free. In this photo, where you see the geometrics figures on the top left, it was a tennis court until some years ago. 

I have some plants and small trees in my garden, the last floor of a small building surrounded by museums. This is an real olive from one of them. 

The Saborável factory was born in 1905 in Funchal. It's principal production is the traditional sweets regional Madeira Island. Today have some 160 products Saborável, many variants, fruit development and innovation of traditional recipes. 

I like very much cuise ships. And, from my home I can see them coming and going out in Funchal port that had in 2011 the visit from 303 cruise ships and more than 540.000 passagengers. I did this zoom to the last departure of Ventura, a big cruise ship. Like you see, the passagengers appreciate that special moments. Gosto muito de navios de cruzeiros. E, da minha casa, tenho a felicidade de poder vê-los entrar e sair do Porto do Funchal que em 2011 teve a visita de 303 paquetes e mais de 540 mil passageiros. Fiz este zoom na última partida do Ventura, um grande navio de cruzeiros. Como pode ver, os passageiros apreciam muito estes momentos.

    Two flags in an official building. The green an red it's from Portugal, my country. And the other one, blue and yellow, it's from Madeira Autonomous Region, where I live. Normaly, they put the flags on weekends and public holidays. 

   
   I take this picture in Funchal bay, in a place where they put all rocks that came by streams on a bad day of heavy rains in the city, on february 20th 2010. They put plenty of rocks and debris on a beach. Now, the idea is to make one more point to dock big ships. For now, it provides a picture ugly. But, in the ugly, I found in this framework that I liked, despite the simplicity. ~~~~ Fiz esta fotografia na baía do Funchal, num local onde estão depositadas as pedras e rochas que vieram pelas ribeiras num dia de grandes chuvadas na cidade, a 20 de fevereiro de 2010. Colocaram uma infinidade de rochas e detritos sobre uma praia. Agora, a ideia é fazer mais um ponto para atracar navios. Por enquanto, proporciona uma imagem feia. Mas, no feio encontrei este enquadramento e gostei, apesar da simplicidade.

    This paintings exist since many years in a travel agency named Ferraz. Those ships did regular trips from some countrys to another. And they came to Madeira island during the trip. But the airplanes change everything and the long regular lines stopped.
This travel agency continues to have a link to ships in supporting in passage through Funchal port. The principal company is Costa Cruises. I think it was since the time this company did regular trips with sips like Frederico C.

    Funchal city have a museum with nature things, death and with life. The aquarium exists since many years. It's a small one but we can see some sea live like this octopus that poses to the picture.

   A cidade do Funchal tem um museu de história natural, morta e viva. O aquário existe desde há muitos anos. É pequeno mas nele podemos ver alguma vida marinha como este polvo que posa para a fotografia.

Marco Polo is an old cruise ship that continues crossing seas with elegance. Some days ago she was been in Funchal Port and I take this picture when left the port in a quiet sea. 

The Diocese of Funchal is developing actions in the context of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the diocese. This flag at the entrance of the Colégio Church is one of the moments that indicates that. The Diocese was established by Pope Leo X, on June 12, 1514. With the growth of the Portuguese Empire, in that time, multiplied missionaries who accompanied the discoverers and developed important work of evangelization. On January 31, 1533, the Pope raised the Bishopric of Funchal and the Archbishop gave him, as a territory, the widest since until today to a diocese. Then again became bishop and is limited to the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

     A Diocese do Funchal está a desenvolver ações no âmbito da celebração dos 500 anos da diocese. Esta bandeira à entrada da Igreja do Colégio constitui um dos momentos que assinala isso mesmo. A Diocese foi criada pelo Papa Leão X, no dia 12 de junho de 1514. Com o crescimento do Império Português multiplicaram-se os missionários que acompanhavam os descobridores e desenvolviam importante acção evangelizadora. No dia 31 de Janeiro de 1533, o Papa elevou o Bispado do Funchal a Arcebispado e deu-lhe, como território, o mais vasto dado até hoje a uma diocese. Depois, voltou a ser bispado e circunscreve-se à Região Autónoma da Madeira.

I think this is a cycas devoluta. I have two in my terrace with 360º view. The picture don't show all plant but show what I want the beauty of the leaves with a mild light.

These devices are the little that remains of the former Torreão factory, who transforming some years ago sugar cane into sugar. The building and its history was dismantled to build a garden. The Torreão Factory was founded by William Hinton & Co in 1856.
As the engine had water, but when it was scarce in summer, the movement was established by a steam engine.
The unit closed in the 80s. It was considered one of the most remarkable plants in the city and regarded as the most perfect in the world, since its power production reaches 500 tonnes of cane in 24 hours.
These devices can be seen at the Gardens of Santa Luzia, who came in place of the factory, whose entrance is free.

     Estes equipamentos são do pouco que resta da antiga fábrica do Torreão, que transformava cana de açúcar em açúcar. O edifício e a sua história foi desmantelada para a construção de um jardim.

Estes equipamentos podem ser vistos nos Jardins de Santa Luzia, que surgiu no lugar da fábrica, cuja entrada é gratuita.

The Largo do Chafariz (square's fountain) owes its name to this source, with four faces, which is the center for many years. It's near the cathedral.

The gardens of Quinta Vigia, where is the official residence of the President of the Regional Government of Madeira, are always well maintained.
Despite controlling the entrance, can be visited free.
Besides the gardens, has a traditional "house of pleasure" and a privileged view of the Funchal port and the city.

Os jardins da Quinta Vigia, onde se encontra a residência oficial do presidente do Governo Regional da Madeira, estão sempre bem cuidados.
Apesar do controlo à entrada, podem ser visitados gratuitamente.
Além dos jardins, a quinta dispõe de uma "casinha de prazeres" e uma vista privilegiada para o porto do Funchal e para a cidade.
