The Diocese of Funchal is developing actions in the context of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the diocese. This flag at the entrance of the Colégio Church is one of the moments that indicates that. The Diocese was established by Pope Leo X, on June 12, 1514. With the growth of the Portuguese Empire, in that time, multiplied missionaries who accompanied the discoverers and developed important work of evangelization. On January 31, 1533, the Pope raised the Bishopric of Funchal and the Archbishop gave him, as a territory, the widest since until today to a diocese. Then again became bishop and is limited to the Autonomous Region of Madeira.

     A Diocese do Funchal está a desenvolver ações no âmbito da celebração dos 500 anos da diocese. Esta bandeira à entrada da Igreja do Colégio constitui um dos momentos que assinala isso mesmo. A Diocese foi criada pelo Papa Leão X, no dia 12 de junho de 1514. Com o crescimento do Império Português multiplicaram-se os missionários que acompanhavam os descobridores e desenvolviam importante acção evangelizadora. No dia 31 de Janeiro de 1533, o Papa elevou o Bispado do Funchal a Arcebispado e deu-lhe, como território, o mais vasto dado até hoje a uma diocese. Depois, voltou a ser bispado e circunscreve-se à Região Autónoma da Madeira.
