This photo, taken in the area of São Gonçalo (east city), you can view the cruise ships in the port of Funchal and some of the hotels bordering the capital of Madeira.

This image was taken on April 11. One day they were in Funchal four cruise ships. How to fit everyone inside, one was out. In the present case was the Nieuw Amsterdam, as seen in the picture, where also are the AIDAblu, far right, and Island Escape. Outside the picture was the MSC Fantasia. It was a day of great movement in the port, in the city and island tours with thousands of tourists from cruise ships.

It is not a race but it seems. I took this photo yesterday, shortly after 19 hours, as you can see the clock on the cathedral. Going forward, we see the cruise ship Seven Seas Mariner, who had left first the Funchal Port. After, the ferry left Lobo Marinho left the port too, in his usual trip on Fridays to Porto Santo.
Soon the Porto Santo Line ship crossed the cruise ship.

This image was taken on the final leg in Funchal of the Black Prince cruise ship, sailing today in Venezuela under another name. Across the port are two cruise ships of Costa Cruises: Costa Luminosa, foreground, and the Costa Europa, which I think has not joined today the fleet of Italian company.

These are two of the ships are now in Funchal city to attend the New Year. The Queen Victoria, left, and Oriana, to the right. The fireworks marking the new year is a very popular tourist attraction for residents on the island and also for the thousands of tourists who would sell out the hotels.
The year is coming to an end in Funchal. Sooner or later, the new year will arrive in all world. I want a 2010 to suit their desires.

Seems a race between a cruise ship and a sailboat. But it is not. It is just leaving the port of Funchal, at the same time, of the Navigator of the Seas and a cruise ship, with different characteristics, the Wind Surf.

In the port of Funchal, although the movement of ships is increasing throughout the year, is characterized by two times of high intensity. In April, some cruise ships that make cruises in the Caribbean and throughout that area, traveling to Europe where they are positioned to travel in the summer in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe. With the arrival of autumn in Europe, with the leaves falling from the trees, the ships which came to warm in the sun make the way around. As they say here, after they come "up", in November go "down" as I shown in the picture I have take in the other day, with a Holland America ship go "down". In this picture we can see also the tower of the Convent of Santa Clara on the left.

Different funnels in two cruise ships in Funchal port.

Funnels. This two ships: Costa Magica, in first plane, and the Ocean Village, crossing to the port of Funchal, giving the impression that the funnels are of a single ship, while the colors show different companies.
Looks like a race between the cruise ships of the MSC Cruisess and Costa Cruises. But it is not. The two ships have just left the port of Funchal and is about to double the Garajau, a nature reserve on the island of Madeira.
