another day in Funchal
As in all Mondays, the ferry Volcan de Tijarafe comes quietly in the distance, on Garajau rock, and arrives at Funchal, coming from Portimão, Algrave in southern Portugal. At the end of the day goes to Tenerife, Canary Islands, and returns to Madeira on Saturday, after going through another Spanish island, Gran Canaria.

Como em todas as segundas-feiras, o ferry Volcan de Tijarafe surge calmamente lá ao fundo, na ponta do Garajau, e chega ao Funchal, vindo de Portimão, no Algrave, no sul de Portugal. Ao fim do dia segue para Tenerife, nas ilhas Canárias, de onde regressa à Madeira no sábado, depois de passar por outra ilha espanhola, Gran Canaria.

Fantastic photo with the sun shimmering on the water and the view of the cruise ship coming around the corner! Man - I want to go to Funchal and Gran Canaria! Many of my relatives from Sweden have been to Gran Canaria!
ResponderEliminarGran Canaria an Funchal, in Madeira island, are different option. If you have good beachs and hot sun all days, and don't need to "drink" history and nature, you can go to the first, the canary island. But, if you want history, nature, with a great part of them protected and world patrimony, good food, and a tradition of more than 200 undred years receiving people in tourism, or more than that, since they began the trading with the world, since 5 centuries, and good acess to the see, in must came to Funchal.

ResponderEliminarI have an old book (of 1910) "gardens of madeira" by sisters Du Cane.
Maybe you are aware of it: one of them did the writing and the other did magnificent watercolor paintings of Madeira's flowery gardens!
What I like most is that you live in a high place, with nice view of the sea!

ResponderEliminarThis is a wonderful picture. The boat seems to be arriving peacefully and silently (I don't know why I say this about a photo . . . but that is how it seems!) and the cliffs very powerful in contrast.
