A nau Santa Maria, antiga, parece puxar o grande e moderno navio, Zenith
The Santa Maria has just returned from another trip to the coastal city of Funchal and part of another, Câmara de Lobos. It is curious to see the difference in size of the big boats of their times. The Santa Maria, that we see a replica of that used by Columbus on his way to America, would be one of the largest in its time. Today is tiny compared with the large cruise ships and Independence of the Seas, which was once again the capital of Madeira.

Santa Maria nau, a reply of Colombo's ship who "discover" America. This wood ship make trips all day in south cost of Madeira island. In the photo, it's arriving to the place where people embark and disembark, near the terminal ferry in Funchal port
It is called "Santa Maria". It is a replica of the ship of Christopher Columbus and was built on the Madeira island between July 1997 and July 1998 by Robert Wijntje, a dutch resident in the island, and by local artisans to celebrate the historic voyage of Columbus across the Atlantic to the discovery of "Indies", which ultimately led him to the Caribbean and America. There isn't a replica pure because don't have much data. But it was built as close as possible to the original. It has 22 meters in length, 3 masts, the highest with 16 meters. Has a capacity of more than 100 passengers.
Soon after construction is finished, the Santa Maria was in Lisbon to represent the Madeira wine at Expo 98. Today is the day trip south coast of Madeira.
