The sailing boats with french flag with three masts "Le Bel Espoir II" (right, with black hull) and "Le Rara-Avis" of Belespoir, anchored in the Funchal bay some weeks ago.

O primeiro, além da tripulação de 9 elementos pode receber até 27 alunos.
Por sua vez, o “Le Rara-Avis” (casco azul claro) tem ainda capacidade para receber alunos de cadeira de rodas.
Como nota dominante, a bordo destes navios os alunos têm diversas aulas como de carpintaria, de mecânica, de navegação, de cozinha e de soldador.

What you see in the foreground is an artificial beach created last year in the Funchal coastline. It is pebble, like there is usually on the beaches of Madeira, but this is man-made. In the background, in yellow tones we see the four stars Hotel Porto Santa Madeira and the Fort São Tiago, where there is a restaurant O Forte and the Museum of Contemporary Art.

O que se vê em primeiro plano é uma praia artificial criada o ano passado no litoral do Funchal. É de calhau, que existe normalmente nas praias da Madeira, mas esta foi feita pelo homem. Em segundo plano, em tons amarelos vemos o Hotel Porto Santa Madeira e o Forte de São Tiago, onde existe o restaurante O Forte e o Museu de Arte Contemporânea.

This is the statue of Max, one of the leading Madeiran artists of all time who lived in Lisbon and took the name of Madeira over the world.
He was born in 1918 and died in 1980.
This is is located in the old town of Funchal, next to the hotel Porto Santa Maria.

This monument deployed in the gardens of Almirante Reis aims to mark the 500th anniversary of the Diocese of Funchal. Results from the contributions of emigrants suggested the possibility of building a monument to tick off this jubilee date, to signify the Christian faith that led their parishes and that still celebrate with great enthusiasm in the countries where they live. The work is the Madeiran sculptor Ricardo Velosa.

Este monumento implantado nos jardins do Almirante Reis visa assinalar os 500 anos da Diocese do Funchal. Resulta do contributo de paroquianos e de emigrantes sugeriram a hipótese da edificação de um monumento que assinalasse esta data jubilar, que exprimisse a fé cristã que levaram das suas paróquias e que ainda hoje celebram com grande entusiasmo, nas terras para onde foram viver.
A obra é do escultor madeirense Ricardo Velosa.

This painting is one of the many painted doors of the old town of Funchal. It was vandalized by a fool. What you see and what you see out of context, the black spot, was working hands of someone who does not know how to respect.

This cloud appeared yesterday in the evening on the city of Funchal.
The unusual format woke me up and wanted to register to show who had no opportunity to see.
A few weeks ago there was a similar phenomenon in the capital of Madeira. However, the cloud format was also very different and more extensive.

 Esta nuvem apareceu ontem ao fim da tarde sobre a cidade do Funchal.
O formato fora do comum despertou-me e quis registar para mostrar a quem não teve oportunidade de ver.
 Há umas semanas aconteceu um fenómeno semelhante na capital da ilha da Madeira. No entanto, o formato da nuvem era diferente e também muito mais extensa.

The 20 February 20, 2010 was remarkable for Madeira, due to the heavy rain that fell in Funchal and throughout the island. Although it caused death and destruction, in fact happened in just a few places. Therefore, most of the island was unharmed and the tranquility of those in visited us is evident in this photograph I made in Santa Catarina Park, a few hundred meters from the heart of Funchal.
And I noted this photo then because I wanted to show the world that, despite what happened, life went on and we were at sea clinging to boards in the middle of debris, such was the drama evidenced by some average in media.

O dia 20 de fevereiro de 2010 foi marcante para a Madeira, devido à chuva intensa que caiu no Funchal e em toda a ilha.
 Embora tenha causado mortes e destruição, a verdade é que foram localizados. Por isso, a maior parte da ilha ficou incólume e a tranquilidade de quem nos visitava está bem evidente nesta fotografia que fiz no Parque de Santa Catarina, a poucas centenas de metros do coração da cidade do Funchal.
 E registei esta foto então porque queria mostrar ao mundo que, apesar do que aconteceu, a vida continuava e não estávamos no mar agarrados a tábuas no meio de destroços, tal era o dramatismo evidenciado por alguns media.
