The Savoy Hotel was built in 1912.
Over time the unit has been growing and increasing the number of rooms.
In the 20s boasted 4 stars and at the end of the 60 would change to 5 stars with the arrival of charter flights from Europe.
In the 70 undergoes a major transformation and has nothing to do with the original, whose architecture was-overlapping. Now has 13 floors and 337 rooms. It's a classic hotel.
In 2009 began to be demolished to make way for a new hotel would be built from scratch with 16 floors and 500 rooms.
The death of one of two partners, coupled with the adverse economic climate has made the work already undertaken stay as seen on the picture for some years now.

The Mercado dos Lavradores (farmers market, with a project by Edmundo Tavares (1892-1983, was inaugurated on November 24 194.
Testimony of the "Estado Novo" architecture, reflects the grandeur of its conception, the intention of making it big in the city center provider.
 In its space organized into small "squares", "Wide", "Streets" and "Stairway" sell themselves products of all kinds, blend colors, sounds, smells and different people.

This a great view of Funchal port and the city from a balcony in Quinta Vigia, the Madeira presidente offical residence that can be visited during the day. It have a fantastic garden, a house with charm and a big balcony with a view.

There are many ways to go to the CR7 Museum, in Funchal city, if you go on foot. But, if you want to do there in a car you need to follow the indication and go to Rua da Penha de França until stop in Rua Princesa D. Amélia and go to the number 10. This is the Cristiano Ronaldo museum where he have their trophies since the beginning in Madeira island, where was born.

I knew this building in Rua Ivens, north of the Jardim Municipal (municipal garden), for many years.
But had never aroused my attention to the top floor which has a different architecture in Funchal.

Every mondays, like today, the cruise ship AIDAstella returns to Funchal port i winter season. And, every week, some passangers cyling around the city in organized tours. I find some of them one of this days in Santa Catarina Park where there are a chapel with the same name.

In the city of Funchal and in all Madeira the water to irrigate lands is transported in channels, that we call "levadas", through the mountains and then distributed to the force of gravity by different houses. To divert water from its normal downward course, there are those covers that are placed in the "levada". There is a time for each person, according to the contract. Then the cover is removed and follows its route.

In the Rua de Santa Maria, the street of the painted doors in old town of Funchal we can find many things like this Art Gallery in an on old building.
