This is one of the many caves that are along the coast of the island. I got this on board the replica of Colombo's sailing ship Santa Maria when I was returning from my trip to Cabo Girão. The city of Funchal is crossed by the wood we call "ribeiras". These are small streams that flow into the bay from the capital. In this case, the photo refers to the Ribeira de Santa Luzia, which lies between that of Ribeira de João Gomes, at east, and Ribeira de São João, at west.
