It is called "Santa Maria". It is a replica of the ship of Christopher Columbus and was built on the Madeira island between July 1997 and July 1998 by Robert Wijntje, a dutch resident in the island, and by local artisans to celebrate the historic voyage of Columbus across the Atlantic to the discovery of "Indies", which ultimately led him to the Caribbean and America.
