[GB] This image captures the memory of a Funchal that has transformed itself. In the spotlight, we see the silhouette of the old Savoy Hotel, a landmark of Madeiran hospitality that, for decades, punctuated the city's landscape with its classic structure. Today, this scene has given way to the imposing Savoy Palace, a vastly larger building with a completely different architectural language. Looking at this photograph is like traveling through time and recognizing how the city grows and reinvents itself, with the eternal blue sky and the green palm trees as the only constants.

The Savoy Hotel was built in 1912.
Over time the unit has been growing and increasing the number of rooms.
In the 20s boasted 4 stars and at the end of the 60 would change to 5 stars with the arrival of charter flights from Europe.
In the 70 undergoes a major transformation and has nothing to do with the original, whose architecture was-overlapping. Now has 13 floors and 337 rooms. It's a classic hotel.
In 2009 began to be demolished to make way for a new hotel would be built from scratch with 16 floors and 500 rooms.
The death of one of two partners, coupled with the adverse economic climate has made the work already undertaken stay as seen on the picture for some years now.
