João dos Reis Gomes was born and died in Funchal, betwwn 1869 and 1950.
He was a teacher, school principal, military, and was connected to the important events organization. He was also a journalist and wrote a wide work.
This statue, made in his honor, is reflected in the Municipal Garden of Funchal.

João dos Reis Gomes nasceu e faleceu no Funchal, entre 1869 e 1950. Ele foi professor, diretor escolar, militar, e esteve ligado à organização de importantes eventos. Reis Gomes foi ainda jornalista e escreveu uma vasta obra.
Esta estátua, feita em sua honra, está patente no Jardim Municipal do Funchal.
