"The Sower" is a statue designed by the Madeiran Francisco Franco (1885-1955). It was made in 1923, when the sculptor was living in Paris. The sculpture was displayed publicly for the first time in Funchal December 7 1936 when it is placed in the Praça de Tenerife. 30 years later was transferred to the main entrance of the former General Board of Funchal, the current Regional Government, in Avenida Zarco. In 1989 he was installed on a large pedestal in the Parque de Santa Catarina where he remained until 2007. From December 2008, the statue has become next to City Hall of Funchal, in an area of ​​about 500 m2 enclosed by the Rua Gonçalves da Câmara south, the headquarters of the municipality to the north and the old building of Finance.

    “O Semeador” é uma estátua da autoria do madeirense Francisco Franco (1885-1955). Foi feita em 1923, quando o escultor se encontrava a viver em Paris. A escultura foi exposta publicamente no Funchal pela primeira vez a 7 de Dezembro de 1936 aquando da sua colocação na Praça de Tenerife. 30 anos mais tarde foi transferida para a entrada principal da antiga Junta Geral do Funchal, atual Governo Regional, na Av. Zarco. Em 1989 foi instalada sobre um amplo pedestal no Parque de Santa Catarina onde permaneceu até 2007. A partir de dezembro de 2008, a estátua passou a estar junto à Câmara Municipal do Funchal, numa área de cerca de 500 m2 delimitada pela Rua do Padre Gonçalves da Câmara a sul, pelo edifício sede da autarquia a norte e pelo antigo edifício das Finanças a nascente.
