Why is it that this sea of red roofs is so charming in Funchal, but if I were to take a pic of the same type of density of housing here in California, it would be quite depressing??? The houses in Funchal were quite close together, with not much outdoor space around each house...which is the case in so many other equally lovely cities all over the world...Greece and Spain come to mind....but here in the States that kind of density of population is overwhelming and usually indicative of a great many social and economic problems...interesting cultural differences...
