Isto porque, sem ter habitantes, o arquipélago da Madeira tem ainda dois grupos de ilha mais a sul: as Desertas, mais próximas, que podem ver-se da Madeira, e as Selvagens, que chegam a estar mais próximas das ilhas Canárias do que ao arquipélago a que pertencem.

Desde a primeira viagem nos anos 60, até ontem, fez 594 passagens pela Madeira. Tem o recorde. O navio está agora nas ilhas Canárias. Depois passa por Lisboa, em Portugal. Regressa a Southampton, no sul de Inglaterra, de onde partiu para este último cruzeiro. No dia em que chega, no próximo dia 16, deixa de pertencer à companhia. Foi comprado por uma empresa venezuelana,a Saveca, que o vai utilizar em cruzeiros naquelas águas com o nome Esmeralda. A razão da venda tem a ver com exigências internacionais a nível de segurança Solas, que iria obrigar a grandes obras no navio, que não parecem ser necessárias na Venezuela.
