Estas árvores estão situadas no passeio central da Avenida Arriaga. Podemos ver flores púrpuras e amarelas, mais atrás. Juntas constituem a bandeira da cidade do Funchal, e foi precisamente com esse intuito que foram plantadas.

These trees are located on the central sidewalk of Arriaga Avenue. We can see purple and yellow flowers, further back. Together they constitute the flag of the city of Funchal, and it was precisely for this purpose that they were planted.

I made this framework to enjoy the light that illuminated the grass of the Santa Catarina Park. Because, for me, photography is mainly a result of moments that can be predicted but not programmed.
Back there, moored in the Funchal harbor, is the Azura cruise ship.

O passeio da Avenida Arriaga rasga o centro da cidade desde a Sé do Funchal até à Rotunda do Infante. Um espaço privilegiado a convidar para longos passeios sossegados.

Este hotel chamava-se inicialmente São João. Mas os novos donos decidiram fazer obras completas, de cima a baixo. Depois de concluídas, surgiu com o nome Fouviews Baía e completamente diferente do hotel que existia anteriormente.

This hotel was originally called São João. But the new owners decided to do complete works, from top to bottom. Once completed, it came up with the name Fouviews Bay and completely different from the hotel that existed previously.

A poncha é um das bebidas tradicionais da Madeira que não dispensa ser provada por quem ainda não o fez. Apesar de serem deliciosas, convém não abusar porque vai subir à cabeça.

Poucas pessoas conhecem este canhão ou bateria que a imagem apresenta. Ao lado dele constam mais outros. Estão tão bem enquadrados na paisagem o que faz com que um olhar desatento não os consiga encontrar. Faziam parte da artilharia de costa para defender a cidade e o Porto do Funchal.
Tanto quanto conheço, integram um plano nacional erguido no pós-guerra de Baterias Independentes de Defesa de Costa. Uma "exigência" da guerra fria, uma vez que depois da segunda guerra mundial Portugal aderiu à NATO em 1949.
Também se dizia que quando faziam disparos partiam alguns vidros nas casas.

Few people know about this cannon that the image presents. Beside him are others. They are so well framed in the landscape that makes an inattentive look unable to find them. They were part of the coast artillery to defend the city and the Port of Funchal.
As far as I know, they are part of a national plan erected in the post-war Independent Battles of Coast Defense. A "requirement" of the cold war, since after World War II Portugal joined NATO in 1949.
It was also said that when they shot some glass broke in the houses.
